When we brought our first child home from the hospital, we were directed to bring him to an appointment the following day on Christmas morning. Our hospital experience had been so stressful and exhausting, and we returned home stunned and sleep-deprived with this appointment looming before us.
We had pictured spending our first Christmas morning together in our pajamas opening presents. Instead, we woke up early to get ready and prepare the baby for the winter cold. We thought we had plenty of time…but somehow we were still running 20 minutes late. We felt anxious walking on icy sidewalks, driving through the winter streets, as we carried our precious gift in his car seat.
